It’s been a while since I got the overwhelming to change the site, so over course, that is what this is all about. New look to the main site, slightly new look to the forum, and new functionality for now and more to come later.  Let’s see if I can remember all the changes.

1. New layout for main site with new graphics, including rotating header graphic (each time you refresh the page, the banner should change (right now there are only two options: Men’s team and Women’s team, but more will come).  Also, the page will display as wide as your browser window is open, which means less scrolling for those with wide screens. I am also redoing the pages (right hand column).
2. No more comments/logging in on the main site. To reduce my constant deletion of “fake” users, I decided to remove all ability to create users and/or leave comments. All comments will be left in the forum now (more to come on that). However, you will still receive those emails each time I post new stuff. I have added all the previously registered users to the “subscription” list which means you get those updates. New people to the site to subscribe by entering their email address in the “Subscribe For Updates” section in the right hand column. You can remove your email address by entering yours and clicking Unsubscribe.
3. I still have more content to add and change, but I think I was able to get all the previous content moved over successfully. If you don’t see something there that you did before, let me know.
4. To comment on content now, you go to the forums and do it. There is a section where all the the new posts will be automatically added (updates every 60 minutes so if you don’t see it right away, give it some time and it should show up) so all you have to do is log in and post away. Your user names and passwords haven’t changed so that functionality is still the same.
5. For the most part, the forum  is the same, but I changed a couple of categories and changed the “look” just a bit. My big push to redo the sites was the forum because the database for it was tweaked to the point that I couldn’t update it anymore with new features or security fixes. So, I started from scratch and once I got everything updated, I was able to move over the old content. Many of you have already gone through that with me before so not really a big deal. If something isn’t working right, let me know.

I will continue to add things to both the site and forum, but the main stuff is there again for you all to enjoy. Remember, if you don’t see something you would like to see, let me know.

On June 26th, after the conclusion of the 2009 National Rink Hockey Championships at the DFW Roller Sports Complex in Ft. Worth, Texas, almost thirty of the best hockey players aged 14 through 19 gathered together to try out for the 2009 USA Sub 20 Men’s Rink Hockey Team. This Team will compete in the Sub 20 Men’s World Championships in Bassano, Italy September 26th through October 3rd. After a two day try out and training camp the following skaters were named to the Team. Alphabetically, they are:

Floor Players: Allen Davis, Holland Elkins, Kenny Nye, Logan Reil, Shawn Schmelcher, Nate Schussaron, Jamie Vio, and Jonathan Watson. Alternates are: Chris Hughes, Larry Hansen, Jordan Andrews, Timothy Baley, Michael Closser, Ryan Karns, Dylan McKee, and Kyle Swindell.

Goalies: Leonard Burnettt, Logan Brewer, and Ross Herrlinger. Alternates are: Cody Tedrow and Seth Swindell.

Congratulations to all of the skaters for a great camp and a job well done. Good Luck to Team USA.

I met Billy in March. Though he couldn’t play, he was always at the rink to coach one of the kids teams. He had a halo around his head with screws in his head to hold it all in place.

Today, Billy made his triumphant return to the goal cage. I think his doctor just released him today.

Billy was put in late in a losing effort of Decatur Senior Bronze “B” against the DFW “Quad Squad”. I think everybody was looking forward to Billy’s return but, none more than him. When he rolled onto the floor, the rink roared with applause. But, it was his play that kept the crowd cheering. On a late breakaway, DFW was charging down the floor with no Decatur defenseman between the 2 DFW players and Billy in the goal. It was going to be two on one against Billy. As the DFW player charged the goal Billy secured his stance and prepared for the shot. When the lead floor man decided to forego the pass and shoot for himself, Billy launched to his left and deflected the shot with blocking hand. However, the ball deflected right back to the second floor man who was prepared for the rebound shot. Billy, on his stomach and already committed the first shot, pulled his feet up in the air and kicked like a bucking bronc and blocked the coming rebound shot. The crowd went crazy! Even as a player on the floor, I couldn’t help but cheer for this amazing feat. In the locker room after the game, Billy wouldn’t take any credit and did what he done has since I met him, and deferred credit to the man up stairs. I also heard a few world team players raving about what a spectacular block it was.

I can only hope that someone got it on video. You just don’t see goal tending like that every day.

Day three of competition at the 48th Rink Hockey National Championships got quite intense when a Pee Wee Division playoff game went through thirty minutes of regulation time, two five minute sudden death overtimes, one shootout and finally ending with the second shootout. The place was packed and the crowd was electrified with the spirit and determination of the young players. It was great to experience the excitement of both the players and spectators. The 2009 National Rink Hockey Championships began Sunday, June 21st at the DFW Roller Sports Complex in Ft. Worth, Texas. They will run continuously through Friday, June 26th. This is the 48th National Championships in Rink Hockey. Skaters from all over the Country are gathered together for a week of intense competition. With over 40 Teams participating, the games start each morning by 7:00am and run through 9:00pm. After this weeks games, we will crown our National Champions in eight different divisions.
