The 50th edition of the National Rink Hockey Championships came to an end Friday, July 16th after six days of great rink hockey, featuring lots of fun, good sportsmanship, tough competition and exciting games. The World Class Division crowned its champion this afternoon at Bremerton Skateland in Bremerton, Washington. Today’s results and final placements were:

In Bremerton, Washington the weather is heating up, but not as fast and hot as the competition in Bremerton Skateland where they are holding the 2010 National Rink Hockey Championships. The Tournament started on Sunday, July 11th and will continue through Friday, July 16th. We witnessed another day of surprises, fast paced games, two more exciting overtime games, Freshman Division coming to an end and two good Ladies games. This was quite a day filled with high quality, fiercely competitive rink hockey. The results for Wednesday were:

Tuesday, the third day of the 2010 US Rink Hockey National Championships, came to an exciting conclusion with two great Ladies games. On top of the two very exciting sudden death games earlier in the day, it turned out to be a fast paced, highly competitive day of rink hockey. If this is any indication of the rest of the week, it will be an excellent ending to the week of Championship Hockey that ends Friday, July 16th here in Bremerton, Washington. The Final results of the day and for two of the eight Divisions were:

Rink Hockey Committee Meeting at Nationals

July, 2010

1. Treasurer’s report:
   Jim J. Withdrawal of $300 for participation fee for one team at the
   Open International Tournament in Barcelona, reimbursing Jimmy T. $200
   and Barb, $100. Each of the players, coaches and Barb contributed
   10 Euros each to pay the other team’s fee; these fees are necessary
   so that the country hosting these tournaments can receive money from
   their government to help cover their expenses.
2. Minutes of prior
   Conference Calls have been posted on P.J.’s and USARS’ web sites.
3. We are still waiting
   for approval to use the USOC “mark” on our “How to Start. . .”
   booklet, stationary and fax forms. They are changing from a wreath
   to a “mark” and this process will be completed soon. Bill
   is following up on this with Richard Hawkins.
4. Open International
   Tournament in Barcelona, June 21^st – 27^th.
   Frankie and Jimmy
1. Having all of our
   expenses paid made it possible for our teams to participate and gain
   valuable international experience.
2. Teams got their
   first exposure to the “new” rules.
3. Participating countries
   were: Men’s Teams from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica,
   Ecuador, Germany, South Africa, U.S.A. and Uruguay; Ladies’ Teams
   from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, U.S.A. and Uruguay. Colombia
   had hoped to send a Men’s Team and Costa Rica, a Ladies’ Team, but
   were unable to do so. The fact that Teams came from Ecuador, Uruguay
   and a new program in Costa Rica is a wonderful indication of our sport
   strengthening and expanding in the South/Central American region.
   Panama is also actively working on starting a new program. This
   can only strengthen our position regarding consideration for inclusion
   in the Pan American Games.
4. It was great for
   the Men’s and Ladies’ teams to see each other play and support each
   other. This is the first time they have had this opportunity.
   Future tournaments will be held separately.

   International: Argentina, specific dates TBD
2. 2012 Men’s Open
   International: Chile, specific dates TBD

5. Nationals, July

1. “Old rules”
   will be used. But, again, it is extremely
   important for everyone to read the
   “new” rules which are posted

   on both P.J.’s and USARS’ web
   sites BEFORE arriving at Nationals

   so that discussions will be more
   productive. The Men’s and Ladies’ teams which went to
   Barcelona will be playing “exhibition” games so everyone can see
   how the changes in rules affect how the game is played.

2. Schedule for Nationals:
1. 9:00 a.m. – 4:00
   p.m.: Club team practice time – needs to be scheduled with Frankie
2. 4:00 p.m.:
   Referees and Coaches Meeting, discussion of “new” vs. “old”
   rules, etc.
3. 5:00 p.m.:
   General Meeting; among topics will be a discussion of the proposed Age
   and Division Changes
4. 8:30 p.m.:
   Men’s Open Tryout for Team USA
5. There will be no
   teams participating from other countries.
6. TravMed insurance
   is now MANDATORY for all players and Staff participating in international
   tournaments. It has been required by Speed, Artistic and Inline
   Hockey for several years. It is only $3 per day. Any player
   who does not purchase this insurance will be replaced by the next ranked
   player. If anyone already has the same type of insurance, this
   information must be given to Peggy Young at USARS to make sure it meets
   all of the necessary requirements.
7. 2010 Ladies’ WC,
   Alcobendas, Madrid, Spain, September 25^th – October 2^nd.
   Depart from the U.S. on Monday, September 20^th and from Madrid
   on Sunday, October 3^rd.
1. Open Tryouts will
   be on Friday, July 16th, one hour after the last game of Nationals ends.
2. Ladies’ (and Men’s)
   Team Training: Saturday, July 17^th and Sunday, July
   18^th until 1:00 p.m.
3. Our Trainer will
   be Gina Gerona.

8. Pan American Championships will be October 12^th
– 17^th in Rosario, Argentina. Men’s Rink Hockey
Teams will be included; Ladies’ Teams will not.

9. Men’s “B” WC: October 24^th – 30^th,
Dornbirn, Austria. Possible departure from the U.S. could be Wednesday,
October 20th. There will be no training in Italy between the Pan
American Championships and the W.C. as previously considered.
Departure for the U.S. will be on Sunday, October 31^st.

will occur Saturday, July 10^th, 8:30 p.m.

b. Men’s final
cut: Friday, July 16^th, 6:30 p.m.

c. Men’s (and
Ladies’) Team Training: Saturday, July 17^th and Sunday,

On Tuesday, July 12th, the weather in Bremerton, Washington was overcast, rainy and cool, but the weather inside Bremerton Skateland was hot and fierce with competition at the 49th Edition of the National Rink Hockey Championships. Today, the second day of competition, was filled with 19 games played in eight different divisions, an Opening Ceremony featuring the Navy and Marine Silent Drill Team, recognition of some of the special people in our sport, a warm friendly welcome from the Mayor of Bremerton and a unique presentation of our National Anthem by Donna Baldwin. What a great day for long time hockey players, spectators, and newcomers to our sport. The results for Monday were:

HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 49^th Edition of the US National Rink Hockey Championships got underway Sunday, July 11^th at Bremerton Skateland in Bremerton, Washington. The Championships will continue through Friday, July 16^th with over 35 Teams competing in eight different age divisions. The last game of the day was an exhibition game composed of players trying out for the USA Men’s World Rink Hockey Team. The game not only allowed the coaches and players to work together more, but it was also played under the new rules of the game that will go into effect on January 1, 2011. It was a great opportunity for the Hockey Community to be introduced to the new “Rules of the Game.” The results for Sunday were:
