Agenda – Rink Hockey Conference Call – May 16th, 2009
AGENDA
Rink Hockey Conference Call
May 16, 2009
1. Treasurer’s Report: Jim J.
2. Minutes of the February 21 and March 21st Conference Calls. Jim. J. Any additions or corrections? No official Conference Call could be held on April 25 because we did not have a quorum; therefore, there are no Minutes.
3. Report on USARS Board Meeting. Bill
-
a. Participation in all 2009 tournaments was approved
4. Nationals, June 21st – 26th
-
a. The deadline for registering teams is May 31st. This deadline is very important since the number of teams registered will determine whether competition begins Saturday evening or Sunday morning. Late registrations will carry the following penalties: 1 week, $50; 2 weeks, $75; 3 weeks, $100.
b. All participants should plan to arrive by 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 20th because of the possibility of more teams than usual participating.
c. Nationals Packets were sent out to all Coaches. Don
d. On Saturday, June 20th, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Daniel Vianna will be holding a Skill Development Clinic at the Rink for all players, 5 – 12 years of age. The cost will be $5 per participant. It will include the fundamentals of Rink Hockey: skating, stick and ball handling, shooting, passing and receiving a pass. It is important for Coaches to make their younger players aware of this Clinic. Players or Coaches should email Daniel at Viannad63@yahoo.com.ar so he will know how many will be participating. Gwen Catledge and Toby will be assisting him: Josh Englund will also be assisting if he attends Nationals. Daniel hopes to make a CD of this Clinic so that it can become available for distribution to people who are starting new programs.
e. Meetings, Saturday, June 20th (the following are tentative times):
-
1. Hockey Committee: 2:00 p.m. (or 5:00 p.m.)
2. Coaches and Referees Meeting: 3:00 p.m. (or 6:00 p.m.)
3. Open Meeting, if requested: 4:00 p.m. (or 7:00 p.m.)
f. Training Camp for the Sub-20 Team will begin as soon as Nationals are over, hopefully, on Friday, June 26th and end about 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 27th. The World Team will be announced at that time.
g. Update on foreign teams which will be participating. Bill
h. Initial discussion about where 2010 should be held. Bill, Don
5. Men’s “A” WC, July 4th – 11th, Vigo/Pontevedra, Spain
-
a. Depart for Spain on Tuesday June 30; depart from Spain for the U.S. on Sunday, July 12th.
b. Toby was approved by the Hockey Committee to replace Brian Stallman as goalkeeper.
c. Trainer is Rob Murphy who was the Trainer for the Ladies in Portugal. He is very good.
d. Change in staff: Don will not be able to go to Spain, so Jimmy asked Daniel V. to assume the role of Manager, in addition to Assistant Coach; Daniel accepted.
e. Daniel V. is working on arranging practice games for the Team before the WC begins.
6. Ladies Copa America Tournament will be in either San Juan or Buenos Aires, Argentina or in Colombia, Thursday, July 30th – Monday, August 3rd. Lodging and internal transportation will be provided; I think food will also be included.
-
a. Tom Hughes will be the Manager.
b. Members of the Team, so far. Bill
7. 2009 Sub-20/Junior WC, Saturday, September 26th – Saturday, October 3rd, in Bassano, Italy.
-
a. Pat said Tom Hughes will be the Manager.
8. Pan American Games Qualifications for both Ladies and Men: Tentative dates are still October 10th – 17th.
9. Winter issue of USARS Magazine: The Ladies’ and Men’s World Teams have a split cover with accompanying articles. It’s GREAT! Know that the USARS Membership list for Rink Hockey dated 5/13/09 only listed 144 names. This means that very few of our players and staff saw this issue, which is really sad. This was an important “first” for our sport.
10. Who should be featured on USARS web site as our “Athlete of the Month” for June?
11. Next Conference Call: Saturday, June 13th at 12:00 noon EDT, instead of trying to schedule one during Nationals?
