February 21, 2009

1. Treasurer’s Report: Jim. J.

2. Minutes of the January 11th Conference Call: Any additions or corrections

3. Montreux, Coupe des Nations: Macao was the eighth team selected. The U.S. will not be participating this year.

4. Men’s Training Camp, April 17th – 19th in Burlington, WA. Special thanks to Josh and the Englunds for hosting this Camp.

5. Nationals, June 21st – 26th

    a. No Men’s World Team Selection Camp June 19th and 20th
    b. All participants should plan to arrive by 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 20th because of the possibility of more teams than usual participating. Games may need to begin that Saturday evening.
    c. Saturday, June 20th, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. (this time might be changed during the Conference Call): Daniel Vianna will be holding a skill development Clinic at the Rink for all players 5 – 12 years of age. The cost will be $5 per participant. It will include the “Fundamentals” of Rink Hockey: skating, stick and ball handling, shooting, passing, and receiving a pass.
    d. Meetings, Saturday June 20th (these times might also be changed during the Conference Call):

      1. Hockey Committee: 2:00 p.m.
      2. Coaches and Referees Meeting: 3:00 p.m.
      3. Open meeting, if requested: 4:00 p.m.
      4. Competition begins either Saturday evening or Sunday morning, depending on the number of team who register. Deadline for registering your team is May 31st (Bill, please confirm this). This deadline is very important since it will determine which day competition begins. Late registrations will carry the following penalties: 1 week, $50; 2 weeks, $75; 3 weeks, $100.

    e. Training Camp for the Sub-20 Team will begin as soon as Nationals are over, hopefully, on Friday, June 26th and end about 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 27th. The World Team will be announced at that time.
    f. Update on foreign teams which will be participating. Bill

7. USARS Magazine and web site

    a. Fall issue contained two articles written by Tom Hughes, one on “Kick Ice!! Play Roller Hockey” in the 2008 Nationals and the other, “2008 Ladies and Mens 2008 Hardball Roller Hockey Teams.”
    b. Winter issue: The Ladies’ and Men’s World Teams are to have a split cover with accompanying articles.
    c. IMPORTANT: One player from each sport will be featured on the USARS web site every month. Josh Englund will be featured first from our sport. The next athlete will be featured April 1st. VERY few of our World Team players have submitted “bios” to Peggy. Players who have not completed theirs need to down-load a blank one from the USARS web site and complete it as soon as possible and email it to BOTH Peggy and Barb (bbbrooksao@aol.com).

8. Men’s “A” WC, July 4th – 11th, Vigo/Pontevedra, Spain

    a. No Training Camp at Nationals
    b. Depart for Spain on Tuesday, June 30th. Depart for the U.S. on Sunday, July 12th.

9. Dates not yet determined for the Ladies Copa America Tournament, Colombia, possibly one of the last two weeks in July.

10. 2009 Sub-20/Junior WC, Saturday, September 26th –Saturday, October 3rd, in Bassano, Italy (change of city).

11. Rink Hockey WILL be included in the Pan American Trials for both Ladies and Men. Tentative dates, according to Jim Pollard, are October 10th – October 17th.

12. We need to discuss who should be nominated for “Rink Hockey Player of the Year.

13. Next Conference Call: Saturday, March 21st, 1:00 p.m. EST ok with everyone?
