Users In Both The Forum and Main Site
So, as mentioned before, the main reason for me to change the forum was I wanted to link both the users in the forum to the users on the main site and make it that once you register in one of them, you are registered for both. Also, I wanted to make it that once you login to one of them, you are logged into both, and logging out goes the same way.
Here is where we stand: all new users that add themselves to either the main site or forum, will have access to both sites without having to register at both sites. Registration to the “other” one will automatically happen (meaning: register in the forum, and you now have a registered account on the main site too, and vice versa). If you were registered on the main site already, prior to this conversion, you know can log into the forum with the same username and password. However, I can’t say the same for going the other direction, meaning registered users in the forum were not added to the main site, and I can’t find any tools to do this automatically for me, and I’m not sure the best way to resolve it. I could start removing people from the forum, and then re-registering them, but I’m not sure how that will effect existing posts that they have made in the forum. Still working on a good solution.
Also, when you log into the forum, you can then browse to the main site and you will already be longed in. Unfortunately, and I’m not sure why on this one, it doesn’t go the other way. If you log into the main site, and then click to go to the forum, you still have to log in again. It’s not supposed to work that way so I am trying to figure that one out too.
There’s the update so far. I am also working on the look of the forum since it has changed and there is a bunch of things that I want to change (visually).
